Earth Medicine began in southern Idaho, when the inventor, Dan Prefontaine, saw an immediate need to sustainably recycle the excessive amount of dairy manure being produced in his local area.

With more than 300 dairies operating in the Magic Valley area, there was an increasing demand to utilize this waste in a sustainable way.

It is commonly said “not all compost is created equal” which is correct. Most compost products are under turned, dry out or not properly composted, leaving weed seeds active and other unwanted materials present.

Dan Prefontaine spent years perfecting the art of aerobic composting which resulted in a premium product that was sold to local farming operations. At the height of his operation, they were moving over 300 thousand tons of manure and 200 thousand tons of compost.

Prefontaine soon found a problem within the composting industry - You can’t ship product by the truckload more than a 60 mile radius before the cost of freight far exceeds the cost of the product.

This pain-point led him to discover and invent the patented proprietary process of making the granular formula known as Earth Medicine, which is a shelf stable biological soil-amending fertilizer with 10X the potency of regular compost. This results in less product needed, less freight, easier application and powerful results.
